My Dior Makeover with Vincent Lee!

Me with Vincent Lee, National Makeup Artist for Dior.

Today I went to my favorite Dior counter for a makeover with Vincent Lee, National Makeup Artist for Christian Dior. I was extremely excited about it as I'd heard some wonderful things about Vincent, and he didn't disappoint me! The entire experience was very educational, and just as importantly, when I left the counter I truly felt beautiful!

I'm going to break down this look by eyes and lips, as those were both the focus of the overall look. I do strong lips and eyes together all the time, and every time I mention it I get a few people who inform me that it can't be done without making you look like one of those zombie models from a Robert Palmer video back in the 80's. Well, I beg to differ, and apparently so does Vincent, as he came up with a truly lovely combo for me.

The Eyes

Vincent began by filling in my brows with Dior's universal brow pencil, the Brow Styler. It's a fantastic little retractable pencil with an extremely fine point that allows very fine placement. It's also a universal color...to go darker, just press harder on the pencil.

He then covered my lower eyelid (from the lash to just below the crease) with a layer of the eyeliner "Precious Violet," a deep purple-plum color. Vincent explained to me that using the eyeliner as a base would give me much more depth of color when he applied the smokey purple eye shadow over it. He also said it would serve as a great base for the shadow, grabbing it and holding it in place. I'd never used this technique, and I'm really glad to have learned it, since he was right--the shadow truly did have more depth and opacity than it would have if used alone, and it took much less shadow to achieve the effect we were going for.

Vincent chose the 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Stylish Move, #970. It's a simply gorgeous palette featuring a deep, smokey violet. After my lid had been filled in with the eyeliner, he highlighted my brows with a pale pink shimmer, then accented my crease with a soft grey-purple taupe. Finally, he layered the deep violet color on top of the eyeliner base, creating a sexy, almost blackened plum color. He blended well and then lightly pressed a tiny amount of the center color of the quint, a shimmery off-white, onto the center of my lid to highlight. He finished the look with eyeliner applied to my upper rim and just between my lashes and smudged the liner to accent the smokiness of the look. Finally, he applied Lash Maximizer serum and Extase mascara for dramatic lashes.

Here are a couple of shots of the finished eye:

The Lips

It turns out Vincent loves lipstick alchemy as much as I do, and he told me he loves to mix colors to achieve completely unique effects. For me, he began with Dior Addict #865, Collection, (a brilliant red with a touch of fuschia) on my entire lip. He then applied Dior Addict #762 Paris (a lovely, vibrant, mid-tone, warm pink) inside the Collection, creating an ombre effect. Finally, he topped it with Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Flash in #686, Outrageous Fuschia. The effect was a beautiful, brilliant, sumptuous pink that literally glowed and made my lips appear full and soft.

As for other products used, I wore Capture Totale foundation in #22 topped with Poudre #001, as well as Harmony #001 blush. Skinflash #002, an undereye highlighter, was used around my orbital area to brighten.

Finally, here's a shot of the finished, complete look:

Plenty of drama without excess! I'm so happy with this look, as it perfectly balances both strong eyes and lips for a balanced effect. Vincent took the time to talk me through each step of the application, making sure I understood exactly what he was doing so I could recreate it at home. I feel confident that I will be able to do so with his eloquent instructions. He also did a wonderful job at giving me a look I would be happy with and showing me his work along the way so I could see how things were progressing. I couldn't be happier with him, as I absolutely love the final result!

Finally, I have to send a shout-out to Trae Dorriety, Dior's Business Manager, who put this event together and invited me. If you are in the Atlanta area, stop by and see him at the Town Center Macy's...he won't steer you wrong! He can be reached at 770-421-2869 for advice and appointments.
