Lovely Lipstick Review: Hourglass Icon

As you all know, I'm a red lipstick fiend. I've abstained for the last few months due to summer, but I can't hold out any longer. Even though the temperatures are still in the 90's, even though Fall is technically a full month away, school has started (and therefore I'm back at work), and the days for vibrant reds, vivid fuschias, and deep plums and berries has returned!

This red-lipstick season, I'm beginning with a lipstick I've been looking at for over a year. I have no idea how I held out so long, but for some reason I never acquired the lovely Icon from Hourglass. A rich, creamy, true red with the tiniest hint of blue to anchor it, Icon is a true pin-up girl red. It's the type of red Madonna made famous back in the 80's and early 90's (for those of you who remember that). It sets off my pale skin perfectly and makes my teeth appear whiter. It's a gorgeous, vibrant red that still manages to look sophisticated. In short, it's a red lipstick lover's dream lipstick.

Here are some shots of Icon taken in direct sunlight. The fact that the bright sunlight didn't wash it out attests to its incredible pigmentation.
I love the hourglass shape etched into the lipstick!

In this shot, you can see how lovely this color is against pale skin. It's a true red with the tiniest bit of blue, making it perfect for neutral or cool-toned skin.

And finally...the gorgeousness that is Icon on the lips! LOVE!

Bottom Line: Icon by Hourglass is one of the prettiest and most glamorous reds I've tried (and I've tried a LOT). It's vivid and show-stopping, yet deep enough to still be sophisticated...perfect for a little black dress. It wears for hours with no feathering, and as it wears off it leaves a nice stain behind rather than a sad little rim of red around the mouth. It's also extremely creamy, yet lightweight on the lips. Truly, if you are a red lip lover like me, this is one you have got to try.

Icon can be found at Hourglass Cosmetics and Sephora.

I just discovered your site recently, and it's great to read a blog from the perspective of another red lipstick lover! So many beauty bloggers seem to prefer neutral lips, but I love your red lipstick reviews :-)

Thank you, Monica! You'll see a lot of lipstick colors on my blog, but you will NOT see neutral lips! :)
