On the Cheap: Maybelline ColorSensational Lip Color #980, Plum Jewel

This week's On the Cheap features a lovely lip color I found at CVS last week. Maybelline's ColorSensational line is a comprehensive, color-rich line of lipsticks that's very high quality for the price. Although it has some drawbacks, I'm overall really happy with this one, especially given that it cost me only about $10.

Plum Jewel is a pretty pink-plum color. Unlike many plums, it doesn't go too dark or goth on me, and the pink undertones really brighten my face. The formula is creamy and moisturizing and lasts for several hours.

Here are some closer shots:

The ColorSensational lipsticks are very lightweight but creamy, almost with a balm feel to them. The color swipes on relatively sheerly with one swipe, but additional coats will give you an opaque effect. The finish is satin. The line boasts a large array of shades, from neutrals to reds to plums and mauves.

Here's an actual shot of my lips wearing Plum Jewel:

Compared to what I normally wear, this is practically a neutral, but for those of you who are into the more subdued shades, this is a perfect way to add a punch of color without being overwhelmed.

Bottom Line: I really like this lipstick a lot. While it doesn't last as long as some of my more expensive lipsticks, it still performs admirably, especially for the price. I'd love to see it a little more opaque, but overall pigmentation is very good and it's a true bargain buy.

Lovely shade - looks more purplish on your hand than on your lips, but both "versions" are nice!

Plum Jewel is a gorgeous color, right up my alley. It really complements your skin tone, too.

I just fell in love with a $2.99 eyeshadow palette. TWO NINETY NINE, lol. I can't believe it, but it's true, so now I am wondering about all the ds lipstick I may have missed. My primary issues are 1) can't try them on and 2) $10 is not really that great a bargain when I can spend just a few dollars more and get Clinique or MAC.

Do you collect many ds lipsticks being he lipstick queen? I haven't found many I like, though I"d give my eye teeth to find Revlon Strawberry Suede.
