Since I'm a lipstick-aholic and the economy pretty much sucks right now, I've been trying to branch out into new and exciting but less expensive brands. I've tried quite a few now, including the drugstore giants like Revlon, Maybelline, and L'Oreal, but I have to say I was thrilled to get the chance to check out the NYX lipsticks. At only $5.99, they're even more affordable than their (increasingly expensive) drugstore counterparts, and the quality is as good or better.
The colors I chose are Gardenia, a warm midtone pink with a hint of shimmer, and Milan, which is more of a cross between a nude and a MLBB color. They're both lighter and more natural shades than I typically go for, being the red freak that I am, but as I said, I'm branching out a bit and decided toning things down a bit might be good for me.
Here's a shot of Gardenia:
As you can see, it's very pink. However, it's a much more neutral pink than my typical fuchsia or deep berry. It basically has just enough color to show up well on my pale lips without becoming the focus of my face. Great for days when I do more dramatic eyes.
Here is Gardenia on the lips:
As for Milan, it's a definite neutral, coming off primarily brown with a hint of pink for balance. It's a great MLBB color, and unlike many "nudes", it has enough depth and pigment to make the lips show up, even in a fair face like mine.
Here's a swatch:
And a shot of my lips:
As for quality, it's quite good. The Gardenia is a bit heavier and not as sleek and slippery as the Milan, which applies almost like a gloss. However, both have decent wear time, and the Milan in particular is very moisturizing. No feathering or bleeding to speak of, even without a lighter.
Bottom Line: These are great little lipsticks, especially for the money. I think I'm going to be getting a lot of use out of both, particularly in the warmer months. However, Milan will take me quite well through the winter with it's neutral qualities and ability to enhance without overpowering my lips. Great buy!
