Dior Holiday 2011: Rouge Dior Lipstick #961, Nocturne

Nocturne: A short composition of a romantic or dreamy character suggestive of night. Interesting. I find this interesting because to me, Nocturne is not so much a nighttime color as it is a lovely representation of daylight, with its gilded rose effect. No, to me it's daytime perfection with a kick.

Nocturne, as with all of the Dior Holiday Collection, is set apart from typical lipstick colors by the infusion of gold shimmer. It lights the color with golden iridescence and makes it much more than your typical rose.

In the above picture, you can see the infusion of gold throughout. It brightens and adds depth and dimension
to the color that would not be there if it were a simple cream. Rather, it gives the color a reflective quality that
is truly lovely to behold.

On the skin, the color comes alive:

It's a perfect marriage of subtlety and drama. I love to wear this during the day with a golden eye (the 5
Couleurs eye shadow palette in Rosy Nude from the same collection is a perfect accompaniment). Together,
they create a soft, better-than-neutral effect that's still perfect for day.

On the lips, the effect is equally stunning:

When worn, it truly comes alive, giving color and definition to the lips in an almost ethereal way.

Bottom Line: Of the four colors in the Dior Holiday Collection, Nocturn is, in my opinion, the most
versatile and loveliest. Highly recommended. Although I (of the red lipstick by day philosophy) find it to be
more suitable for day than night, it's still a perfect accompaniment to dramatic, smokey eyes, making it a lipstick for any time at all.

Ahh, this is the only one I bought, too! I love it! I agree that is the perfect combination of subtlety and drama.

@Larie,

Yes, isn't it gorgeous? I usually go for deeper colors, but I'm so happy with this one!
