On the Cheap: Rite Aid Renewal Powder Brush

Okay, so makeup brushes aren't the most glamorous thing to blog about, right? However, they're indispensable. The right brush makes all the difference in makeup application, turning otherwise average products into perfection (or, conversely, making great products only "okay".) With the right tools, you can accomplish whatever you want with your makeup, from the most subtle, daytime-friendly neutral face to a shocking smokey or colorful eye and the deepest lipstick. Hence, I'm always on the lookout for great brushes, especially the ones that don't cost an arm and a leg.

I found the Rite Aid Renewal Powder Brush at--you guessed it--Rite Aid. I was trapped there waiting on a prescription, which is always dangerous. I mean, who among us hasn't fallen prey to the items in a drugstore beauty aisle while waiting for meds, right? Okay, maybe it's just me, but it happens every time.

The brush appealed to me for a couple of reasons. First, it was only $10.99, which is an absolute steal for a brush this size. Second, it's huge and fluffy, and as it turned out, it's pretty darn soft, too.

Here is a shot of the full brush. Note the domed, full, fluffy head:

In case you can't tell, here's a shot of just how large the head of the brush is compared to my hand:

In addition to the size, the Renewal brush is soft, relatively dense, fluffy, and it doesn't shed all over the place. I had a couple of stray hairs the first time or two I used it, but after a good wash, all was well.

Bottom Line: This is a great brush to add to your collection. I'll admit, it isn't the BEST brush I've ever tried, but it's very, very good, especially if you're the type who hates to spend your moola on brushes instead of the actual makeup.

Great, I'll keep that one in mind for my next med pick up ;-)

What is, in your opinion, a good dupe for MAC 109? I love the shape but it sheds a lot and it isn't as good as the other MAC brushes when it comes to depositing pigments in a predictable way.

This sounds nice! My current fav is revlon's powder brush.

There seems to be so many interesting things at Rite Aid. But I don't have a Rite Aid anywhere! So sad :-(
