I'm a foundation addict. It doesn't matter which type it is--powder, creme, liquid--it doesn't matter the coverage level--sheer, medium, full--and it doesn't matter the finish--matte, satin, dewy. I'll try just about anything. My feeling is that my skin looks and acts differently every day, so having an assortment of foundation types is perfect. On days when I'm dry, I go for a dewier finish. During the warmer months, I stick with powder or matte. When I'm in a hurry, mineral foundation is the easiest, as it can be swiped on in about 2 seconds. But when I want the illusion of perfection, I have to be more careful, and my choices are much more limited. That's where Make Up For Ever's HD High Definition Foundation comes in. Sort of.
HD High Definition Foundation was created specifically for those poor saps who have to go before the HD cameras for television. Used to be, all sorts of imperfections were blurred out on, say, the newscast each night. Then came the dawn of HD cameras, where every single imperfection was out there for all of us to see. We might have well been standing 3 feet away from our favorite TV personalities. And they were all thrilled about it, too. After all, we all love showing off our faults, right? So the quest for a perfecting, yet natural, foundation was begun.
HD High Definition was one of the first, and probably the best-marketed, of the new HD foundations. According to Make Up Forever, it's designed to give excellent coverage with a natural finish. Sericite enhances the diffusion of light and gives a glow to the skin. Relipidium moisturizes the skin up to 46%. HD High Definition has an "unusually smooth and elastic" texture that helps it last all day.
Wow. Those are some serious selling points. No wonder HD High Definition has become so popular!! But does it live up to its promises? Well, sort of.
I wear my foundation for a loooong time each day. I'm up around 5:30, at work around 6:45, and don't wash my face until around 8:30 or 9:00 each night. I also work in a frequently hot and humid environment and have a fairly physical job, which means my foundation is exposed to steam and/or sweat on a regular basis. Most foundations fall apart by about noon, disappearing into my skin or pooling in my pores. HD High Definition made it until about 1:30 in those conditions before it began to appear as if it was just floating on top of my skin, making it very obvious I was wearing foundation. I ended up having to blot it off and went mostly barefaced for the rest of the day.
Now on the weekend it's a different story. My life is actually climate-controlled on the weekends, and I don't get nearly as physical. In those conditions, HD High Definition held up much better, although it still became more obvious on my skin as the day wore on--and I'm not oily. However, I didn't feel the need to make repairs over the weekend.
The coverage is great, and it does leave behind a satin/matte finish that looks very natural. Spots and redness were covered with ease when I used this foundation, and product did not settle into the fine lines or slightly crepey skin under my eyes. The light-diffusing properties of this product are real...I truly glowed, and my skin looked lit from within. Unfortunately, since it didn't last as long as I needed it to, I don't think I'll be able to wear it on a daily basis. HD High Definition will, however, be perfect for special occasions and nights on the town.
Bottom Line: HD High Definition Foundation is a fabulous choice for those of you who work office jobs and don't experience extremely long wear times. It tends to run out of steam around 6-8 hours into wear, but if you won't be dealing with 10-12 hour days, you should be fine. While it's actually doing its thing, it's amazing. The finish is natural, the coverage is medium-full, and the overall effect it gives is one of flawless, glowing skin.
