I'm normally a fan of cake liners, followed closely by gel liners. They just offer much more control than pencils (and often, much better colors and more depth). They also usually last a lot longer on the eyes without smudging or fading. Tarte's Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner is a great gel liner for all of those reasons.
Now that cold weather has returned (although it's about 70 degrees and cloudy out there today for some reason), I've abandoned my summer glosses and headed back to the darker side of lipstick. To me, Fall and Winter are pretty much exclusively the domains of opaque lip color, and nobody will ever convince me otherwise. That being said, there are times when it just isn't worth it to deal with all-out lipstick...like when you run out to the store with nothing but mascara on your eyes and no time to deal with a lip brush. So even in the darker months, I do occasionally dip into my gloss collection, with one requirement: the color must be deep, and the coverage must be heavier than your average gloss.
Everyone wants gorgeous hair, right? Silky, smooth, shiny, bouncy-n-behavin' hair. Sadly, most of us don't have it naturally. For most of us, it takes a village to get our hair whipped into shape, and by village I mean chemicals, heat, and God-knows-what products. So our hair, which started out only marginally acceptable in the first place, ends up completely fried. Enter conditioning treatments, which promise to restore it to it's original (or better) state. Ojon makes such a miracle product in the form of the Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment. But is it a true miracle worker? Hmmm....
I love NARS blush. It's packed with pigment, finely milled, and blends like a dream. Somehow, it manages to pack a lot of color while still appearing sheer and soft on the skin. Many of the colors are seriously INTENSE, yet even on my pale skin they come off as a natural, soft flush. In my opinion, with the possible exception of Chanel's Jous Contraste, they are the best cheek colors on the market. That's why I was so thrilled to see the fabulous Danmari All About Cheeks Palette available at Sephora a few weeks ago.

Wishing all of you a safe, happy, and fabulous Thanksgiving this year. I'm so thankful for each and every one of you!
L'Occitane is one of my favorite lines for body care. I've already introduced you to the amazingly luxurious Cocoa Butter Ultra Rich Body Cream, which I've been slathering on every night before bed. It's done a great job of keeping me moisturized despite the cooling weather and assaults from dry heaters. I've found the Dry Skin Hand Cream to be equally effective for my hands.
I've been told I have sensitive skin, although I'm not totally sure that's the case. I do have some ruddiness and a few broken capillaries, but my skin rarely tingles or gets flushed when I use products with plenty of actives in them. However, on the advice of my aesthetician, I'm trying to tone things down a bit and see what happens. That's why I decided to try Perricone MD's new Hypoallergenic Firming Eye Cream. I wanted to see if there was any difference in using something specifically for sensitive types as opposed to my normal choice, which would be something with as many actives as possible.

As you all know, I'm a fanatic about red lipstick. I've got pretty much every shade there is, from stop-sign red to blue-based red to strawberry, raspberry, and cherry red. There isn't one I won't try. That being said, I've been trying lately to expand my horizons and move on to new colors. Unfortunately, there aren't that many I can wear. While I can wear any shade that's dark or vivid, from orange all the way to purple and everything in between, I have to be careful when I wear anything light or too subdued since it makes my lips disappear. Then I get those oh-so-flattering comments from people like, "Are you feeling sick today?" or "Are you tired?" Just what you want to hear, right?
I'm a recent follower of Perricone MD products. I've known about the line forever, but frankly, between the mixed reviews I've read and the cost, I just haven't been moved to try anything from the line. But I've also been in the market for a good eye cream for-ev-er, and have yet to find my perfect solution. I suffer from the very first signs of aging in addition to puffiness and dark circles. Those three problems work together to create a less-than-fabulous look in the morning. So pretty much out of desperation, I decided to take the plunge and try Advanced Eye Area Therapy, which claims to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness and dark circles.
I've heard about Guerlain's Meteorites Perles forever. They are illuminating spheres which, when used together, cancel out coloration problems and give a soft glow to the skin. For whatever reason, I've never tried them. For a long time I didn't have any uneven color issues, so they seemed unnecessary. However, in recent years that's changed, so ostensibly I should have tried them a long time ago, but I never got around to it. Now that I finally have, I can't believe I missed out on them for so long.

A few months ago, I joined Birchbox.com. It seemed like a good idea at the time. For a mere $10, you're supposed to get a little box full of deluxe samples of various products to try. It certainly sounded like a great idea...but now I'm rethinking that opinion.
I'm a sucker for good makeup brushes. I believe that tools such as brushes make a world of difference in the way makeup applies, as well as how long it takes to apply it and how much product is needed to create a desired effect. I'm more than willing to invest money in the appropriate high-quality brushes for various tasks. As such, I have quite a collection of eye brushes, each serving a specific purpose, each working with specific products for particular parts of the eye. When I had a chance to try Bobbi Brown's Eye Sweep at a counter a few weeks ago, I knew I had to have it.
I went to the Dior counter a couple of weeks ago to check out the new Les Rouges Or collection for the Holiday 2011 collection. My intent was to get the lovely Rouge Dior #961, Nocturne and the 5 Couleurs palette in #554, Couture Golds. Somehow, I ended up with Nocturne and #534, Rosy Nudes. I originally planned to take it back for exchange, but then I took a good look at Rosy Nudes and changed my mind.
It's time for a look inside another Beauty Spotlight Team member's makeup bag, and this week it is Older Girl Beauty's turn to pull back the zipper and she what she keeps close at hand. By the looks of it, it seems like she might just have the kitchen sink in there - let's look and see what Paula has in her makeup bag...

Okay, so makeup brushes aren't the most glamorous thing to blog about, right? However, they're indispensable. The right brush makes all the difference in makeup application, turning otherwise average products into perfection (or, conversely, making great products only "okay".) With the right tools, you can accomplish whatever you want with your makeup, from the most subtle, daytime-friendly neutral face to a shocking smokey or colorful eye and the deepest lipstick. Hence, I'm always on the lookout for great brushes, especially the ones that don't cost an arm and a leg.
I've recently become enamored with the L'Occitane line of body care products. First there was the amazing Dry Skin Hand Cream. Now, it's the Cocoa Flower Ultra Rich Body Cream, a lovely, dense cream meant for the driest of skins (ie, mine). It's soft, soothing, and moisturizing, and leaves skin silky and hydrated for hours.
At Ulta recently I came across a great little collection of Tarte's LipSurgence lip crayons, and I just couldn't resist. Chock-full of moisturizing, fun colors, the kit is a definite winner.
HOFKEN!!! Congratulations, lady!! I will also contact you via email and Twitter. If I have not heard back from you within 72 hours, another winner will be chosen.
To all of you who followed me, commented, and who visit my site on a regular basis, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support! I love to hear from you, and appreciate you taking the time to visit!
Nocturne: A short composition of a romantic or dreamy character suggestive of night. Interesting. I find this interesting because to me, Nocturne is not so much a nighttime color as it is a lovely representation of daylight, with its gilded rose effect. No, to me it's daytime perfection with a kick.
