I'm not normally much of a lip gloss girl, mainly because I like a lot of color. Unless a gloss is highly, highly pigmented, it doesn't do me much good. However, every once in awhile a gloss catches my eye because it's just so different from anything else I've ever seen, I have to try it. Such was the case with Givenchy's Gelee D'Interdit Smoothing Gloss Balm Crystal Shine in Electric Purple.
Gelee D'Interdit Smoothing Gloss Balm Crystal Shine is a bit strangely (and excessively) named, as it's nothing like a balm. It's a lip gloss, pure and simple. It's lightweight, non-sticky, and lasts an average of 2 hours on me. However, what got me interested in it wasn't the balm claim, it was the color, Electric Purple. It's like looking into a starry, starry night, with a pale lavendar background full of swirling purple and blue shimmer.
I couldn't get it to photo well on my lips, so you'll have to trust me when I say that it gives an opalescent sheen to the lips. It brings forth any blue in your red lipstick. It's extremely glossy, with a wet look.
Here are a few more shots:
Really, doesn't it resemble the Aurora Borealis?
The applicator is a small, fine-tipped brush, perfect for precise application.
Here you can really see the blue micro-glitter!
Bottom Line: This is a unique lip gloss that's worth a try if you feel the need, but as it's very sheer and a bit offbeat, it's not at the top of my "needs" list. I like the texture (it really is a gelee), as it feels comforting on the lips. Staying power is average. Where Gelee D'Interdit really shines (seriously) is with the blue micro-glitter, which when applied directly to the lips or over a lipstick adds an otherworldly look that's worth checking out.
